The Scalloped hammerhead (Sphyrna lewini) is a species of hammerhead shark, and part of the family Sphyrnidae. The Greek word sphyrna translates into "hammer" in English. Populations of this species are facing decline due to the high economic value of its fins and the consumption of its meat. It is overfished during all stages of its lifecycle. This species is IUCN red-listed as Critically Endangered (CR) globally with decreasing population trend.
